Viaje Announces Revamped Oro and Platino

Viaje has announced that it is bring back the original releases in the Oro and Platino lines, some of the original cigars that helped put the company on the map when it launched 14 years ago, though they are being given a bit of an update for their return.

Most notably, both of the lines are being produced at Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua, the factory owned by AGANORSA Leaf. The packaging is also being updated to an 8-9-8 style stained wood box.

As for the blends, both cigars are Nicaraguan puros and are getting what the company referred to as slight modifications “to deliver a newer take on an old classic.”

Both blends are being offered in two vitolas; the Oro is available in a 5 x 52 robusto called Fuerza with an MSRP of $9.28, and a 6 x 50 toro named Delicado that is priced at $9.44. The Platino also gets a 5 x 52 robusto, though it is called Chiva but has the same MSRP of $9.28, while the Sueno is a slightly thicker toro measuring 6 x 54 and having an MSRP of $9.60 per cigar.

All four cigars are scheduled to begin shipping to retailers next week. Production numbers have not been disclosed.

Patrick Lagreid

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I’m a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
