Vernon, Conn. Bans Smoking in Parks, Town-Owned Properties

In response to concerns over the “congregation of large and disruptive crowds” in town-owned parks, Vernon, Conn. has banned smoking on all town-owned properties.

It was passed unanimously earlier this week, a direct response to complaints about the use of marijuana at parks. The new law not only bans the smoking and vaping of tobacco and nicotine products, but also the use and possession of cannabis.

The Vernon Town Council passed the new ordinance earlier this week by updating the park’s current statute regarding alcohol possession in parks. As such, violators will be subject to a $100 fine.

Vernon is located in Tolland County, in the northern part of the state. It has a population of around 30,000 people.
