Sin Compromiso Selección Gran Elefante Heads to Corona Cigar Co.

Later this month, Corona Cigar Co. will get its second Sin Compromiso exclusive.

The Sin Compromiso Selección Gran Elefante is a massive 7 x 60 version of the Sin Compromiso blend. Steve Saka, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust’s founder, told halfwheel that he felt like Corona’s previous exclusive, Selección No. 6—a 6 x 60 gordo—needed to be tweaked given how the cigar aged. He also felt like if the tweaks were made, it made sense to create a new vitola.

Sin Compromiso—Spanish for without compromise—uses an Ecuadorian habano binder over a blend of fillers from Nicaragua. Its wrapper is grown in a unique manner, similar to Japanese artisan fruits. The wrapper is grown in the San Andrés Valley in Mexico—not that uncommon—but the leaves are cut off the lower parts of the plants early so that more nutrients goes to a select number of leaves.

Saka says the Gran Elefante headed to Corona yesterday. A presale page at Corona Cigar Co. lists the price as $253.50 for a box of 13 cigars—$19.50 per cigar—though Corona’s sale price is $215.95.

The Gran Elefante is a limited production item, though Saka said he would produce more if Corona requested for additional boxes.
