Reinado Announces Connecticut-Wrapped C29 | halfwheel

After returning to the cigar industry in August 2021 with the Grand Apex, Antonio Lam has announced the second brand for his Reinado brand.

It is called the C29, and the only part of the blend that is being disclosed is the wrapper, which is an Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf. It’s that wrapper—and the journey of getting to the final blend—that gave the cigar its name.

“This wrapper, along with the entire blend, gave me a difficult time through the blending process,” Antonio Lam told halfwheel. “It took me 29 iterations of the blend to arrive at the final product. I am, by nature, a very harsh critic when it comes to blending.”

He said that the wrappers he initially tried were not performing as planned and lacked the flavor profile that he was looking for, as well as that the oils and vein structure were not up to standard. “Once the wrapper was what I wanted, it was blended with various high priming filler and binder combinations until the 29th version where I finally found the flavor profile I was envisioning,” Lam said, adding that the tobaccos used in the blend have been aged for eight years.

“We are extremely excited about adding the C29 to the Reinado portfolio as it uses tobaccos that we have never used before and feel they are delivering a very unique flavor profile and experience when undergoing the blending process I put them through.”

The Reinado C29 is being released in a 5 x 52 robusto vitola that has an MSRP of $10 and comes in paper-wrapped five-packs. Lam is not disclosing where the cigar is being made, but said it is not a limited edition release. He plans to have it on store shelves during the fourth quarter of 2022.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I’m a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
