The third Edición Regional for the Baltic and Nordic regions is getting a preview this month at cigar clubs across the region.
It’s called the Ramón Allones King of North, a 6 1/10 (155mm) x 50 toro known as dobles within the Cuban cigar system. The cigar is being made as an Edición Regional release for Habanos Nordic AB, the Cuban cigar distributor for Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
Currently, the King of North is getting previewed at more than 25 cigar clubs across the region before it gets released to stores on Oct. 1. Each country will receive the cigars at the same time.
Due to taxes, pricing will vary from country to country but Stephan Praetorius, managing director of Habanos Nordic AB, told halfwheel that it should retail for €22-25 ($25.75-$29.25) per cigar.
The Ramón Allones King of North is limited to 6,000 numbered boxes of 10 cigars.
The moniker “King of the North” has two common uses. First is a biblical reference to the Book of Daniel, where both a King of the North and King of the South are mentioned. More recently, the term was used in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of novels which is better known for its television adaptation, “Game of Thrones.”
This is the third Edición Regional release for the region, the other two have also used “North” in the name: the Punch Northern Lights (ER Nordic 2009) and Rafael González North Star (ER Noridco-Baltico 2017).
The Edición Regional program is offered by Habanos S.A. to its various distributors around the world. Each year, distributors can select one cigar to be commissioned for their region, though there have been exceptions when some distributors have been able to select more than one. Those cigars must come from a brand that was not part of the company’s former “Global Brands” and must be a size that is currently not offered in that specific brand.
Edición Regional cigars are signified by a secondary red and silver band that reads Edición Regional followed typically by the name of the region represented by that specific distributor. Oftentimes the cigars do not arrive at stores during the year they are selected for, sometimes multiple years later.
