Partagás Legado EL 2020 Debuts in Spain

The Partagás Legado Edición Limitada received its first preview on Saturday evening in Madrid, Spain, as part of an event hosted by Tabacalera S.L.U., the distributor of Habanos S.A. products in the country, and Club Pasión, a private club of cigar enthusiasts.

The Partagás Legado measures 6 1/8 (157mm) x 48, a grand corona known as the Hermosos No.2. It is a vitola that has only been used for Edición Limitada and Edición Regional releases, dating back to the Romeo y Julieta Hermosos No.2 EL 2004. It was also used in the Quai d’Orsay Senadores EL 2019.

The cigar is notable not just for being an Edición Limitada, but for being the only Edición Limitada for 2020, as Habanos S.A. usually releases three cigars with the designation. This marks the first break from the trio of Edición Limitada releases since 2015, when the company released two Edición Limitadas and the Montecristo 80 Aniversario, which more or less functioned like an Edición Limitada. Beyond that, there had been three Edición Limitada releases every year dating back to 2005.

The Edición Limitada program launched in 2000 with four releases, and would add classes of five cigars in 2001 and 2003, with another four in 2004. There were no Edición Limitada releases in 2002.

Like other Edición Limitada releases, the Partagás Legado is made from tobacco grown in the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba’s Pinar del Rió province, which is then aged for a minimum of two years. It is offered in 25-count boxes, with pricing varying widely by country. While Spain will be the first country to receive the cigar, it has not been confirmed when the cigars will be available at retailers in the country, but pricing has been announced at €21 ($24.52) per cigar and €525 ($613.15) per box.

The Edición Limitada series, Spanish for limited edition, contains cigars that are not part of a particular brand’s current production. Unlike other releases, which can only use certain brands, Edición Limitada cigars have come from nearly all pillars of the Habanos S.A. portfolio. Despite the name, Habanos S.A. does not disclose how many cigars are produced for each release.

Patrick Lagreid

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I’m a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
