The Davidoff Chefs Edition 2021 Backstory
Every great story deserves a trilogy, and the third installment of Davidoff’s Chefs Edition series in a Churchill size has debuted with critical acclaim. I’m here to find out if it’s worth your hard-earned cigar money in this #NowSmoking cigar review Davidoff Chefs Edition 2021.
The blend is a collaboration with Davidoff and four world-renowned chefs: Juan Amador of Italy, Norbert Niederkofler of Austria, Masa Takayama of New York City, and Jorge Vallejo of Mexico City.
As they would painstakingly select the finest ingredients for the dishes they serve in their top-tier restaurants, these culinary experts were selected to ensure not only the finest tobaccos were used, but that they were also sustainably sourced. We’ve talked before about how cigars are so similar to food. Too much – or little – of an ingredient can lead to a bad experience in either. Balance is necessary, and that’s why Davidoff has entrusted the best in the dining industry to help them craft an incredible cigar.
Additionally, each box of these limited-edition cigars are presented in ceramic boxes that serve as an ashtray with the underside of its wooden lid providing two convenient slots for rocks glasses.
The Basics at-a-Glance
Construction: Brown, slightly reddish hue. Well-rolled with an excellent draw.
Cold Draw: Dried fruit.
Base flavors: Wood, light spices, citrus, and a touch of mineral on the finish.
Aroma: Nutty with a hint of buttered popcorn.
Burn & Ash: Only one touch-up on a very humid, rainy day. Burned beautifully with minimal issues.
Davidoff Chefs Edition 2021 Cigar Review – Act I
The cigar begins with flavors of wood, light spices, some citrus zest, and a pinch of mineral that I picked up on the finish. This story is more or less the same for all three acts – Chefs Edition 2021 isn’t notably complex in any fashion. But that’s okay, there being no surprises isn’t really a bad thing. What you’re getting is a medium-bodied blend that colors inside the lines. No throat or nose burnout. No palpitations. No watering eyes. Just you and a great stick.
Davidoff Chefs Edition 2021 Cigar Review – Act II
If anything, the only change in the midsection of Chefs Edition 2021 is that it’s a tad sweeter and even smoother. Those same flavors I mentioned above haven’t changed, and it’s even mellower through the nose. Might not be a bad cigar to help you learn to retrohale (if you haven’t yet) since there’s very little pepper there. I had one touch-up for the burn around that time, but otherwise, the cigar was burning very well with a salt and pepper ash.
Davidoff Chefs Edition 2021 Cigar Review – Act III
The finale of Chefs Edition 2021 is a little richer. The flavors are the same, but they seem to be a bit creamier in terms of smoke thickness. You can almost chew it. There’s a little earth mixed in with the wood and spices, and the flavors are at their sweetest yet. Still no burn issues, and I’m extremely impressed with how consistent the flavors are. It barely deviates for nearly an hour and a half. The good news is if you like these kind of woody, earthy cigars with light spices and sweetness, you’re gonna have a ton of time to enjoy it.
What beverage pairs well with Davidoff Chefs Edition 2021?
Something on the easier-going side. Maybe a lighter pilsner or a pale ale – or even some 7Up and gin. I’d just steer clear of the harder stuff because I think it’ll overpower the blend.
