Cigar bars will remain banned in Louisville, Ky.
Yesterday, the Lousiville Metro Council voted 11-15 on a cigar bar ordinance. Because the measure failed to pass, cigar bars will remain illegal in Louisville.
If passed, it would have allowed for cigar bars to exist so long as they made at least 51 percent of their revenue from the sale of cigars or cigar-related accessories. Other provisions would have required a certain level of air purification. Current Louisville law bans smoking inside. That is why businesses like MATCH Cigar Bar are located in neighboring Jeffersonville, Ind., a roughly two-mile drive from downtown Lousiville.
Louisville is Kentucky’s largest city with a population of around 600,000 people.
