General Collaborates With Cigar City Brewing for New Punch

Tampa’s Cigar City Brewing is getting its own cigar by way of General Cigar Co.’s Punch brand.

The Cigar City Brewing Maduro by Punch is made at STG Danlí in Honduras using entirely Honduran tobacco including habano-seed tobacco used for the wrapper, binder and fillers.

It is debuting in two sizes:

  • Cigar City Brewing Maduro by Punch Magnum (5 1/4 x 54) — $8.29 (Box of 20, $165.80)
  • Cigar City Brewing Maduro by Punch Toro (6 x 50) — $8.49 (Box of 20, $169.80)

General says that it will be available this month at select liquor chains before a “larger rollout” in early 2022.

“One of my first craft loves was beer so I was very excited to work with Cigar City Brewing,” said Ed Lahmann, senior brand manager for Punch, in a press release. “We’re both masters of our craft creating bold, balanced, and highly-regarded products, so it was the ideal partnership for us to create a cigar for beer lovers. The use of the Habano leaves grown in the fertile valleys of Honduras accentuates the savory beers of Cigar City 100%. This cigar pairs beautifully with the Cigar City portfolio of beers, and also stands strong on its own, with the perfect balance of complexity and versatility.”

Cigar City Brewing was founded in 2007 in Tampa, using the city’s nickname. In 2016, Cigar City joined CANarchy, a craft brewing collective that includes Oskar Blues and others.

This is the second different alcohol company that Scandinavian Tobacco Group, which owns General Cigar Co., has collaborated with this year. The company has also worked with Sazerac’s Buffalo Trace to produce a variety of cigars this year.
