Denver’s Flavored Tobacco Ban Advances, Premium Cigar Exemption Added

While Denver’s proposed ban on flavored tobacco is moving forward, there’s now an exemption that means it won’t apply to premium cigars, pipe tobacco and hookah tobacco.

The Denver City Council Safety Committee unanimously approved the proposal earlier today, but it added an exemption for three tobacco categories, including premium cigars. The exemption defines premium cigars as cigars that are made by hand, wrapped in natural tobacco leaf, and do not include a tip. There is no price requirement like similar exemptions proposed in California.

If approved by the full City Council the ban will go into effect on July 1, 2022.
