Casa Turrent Ships 1880 Lanceros and Robustos

For fans of lanceros and Mexican tobacco, it’s about to be a very good time as Casa Turrent has begun shipping the vitola in the four blends that make up its Casa Turrent 1880 line, along with a new robusto vitola.

Those lines are the 1880 Claro, 1880 Colorado, 1880 Oscuro and 1880 Maduro, two of which are Mexican puros while the other two incorporate tobacco from other countries. All of the Mexican tobacco is grown by the Turrent family.

  • The 1880 Claro uses a Mexican habano criollo San Andrés claro wrapper, Mexican Negro San Andrés binder, with Mexican and Dominican tobacco in the filler.
  • The 1880 Colorado uses a Mexican negro San Andrés colorado wrapper, Mexican habano criollo San Andrés binder, and Mexican fillers.
  • The 1880 Oscuro uses Mexican habano criollo San Andrés tobacco for the wrapper and filler, with Mexican negro San Andrés used for the binder.
  • The 1880 Maduro has a Mexican negro San Andrés maduro wrapper, Mexican habano criollo San Andrés binder, and fillers from Mexico and Nicaragua.

Each blend is getting a 7 1/2 x 40 lancero that comes in boxes of 10 cigars, with an MSRP of $16.80 that is the same across the four blends.

Additionally, the company is also shipping a 5 1/4 x 55 robusto vitola for each of the blends, which comes with an MSRP of $16.20 and is offered in 10-count boxes. The lanceros had been slated to be shipped in August, but were delayed and given some extra time to rest before heading to retailers, with the company deciding to then ship the two sizes together.

Two more sizes are scheduled to be released before the end of the year: a 5 1/2 x 54 perfecto with an MSRP of $16.60 is slated for October, and a 4 3/4 x 52 short robusto should arrive in November with an MSRP of $13.80.

Casa Turrent previewed the new sizes at the 2021 PCA Convention & Trade Show.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I’m a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
